Pilot Light

Behold the luminescent glow of the sunlight shimmering upon a mirror like pool of water. It appears calm, soothing, and maybe a little cold. But infuriating, that describes the process behind this capture.

Arriving long before dawn, I was prepped to capture the snow gently enveloping this natural sculpture. Intended to use a filter to slow my shutter speed, but that was never meant to be. Tried screwing on an ND filter, but the frigid temps presented difficulties and it eventually fell in the mud below. Scrambling for a lens cloth, one soon realized rubbing off the mess would only make things worse.

Quite perplexed, I paused momentarily and concentrated on the beautiful scene before me. Eventually realized the low light would allow me to capture a semblance of my vision. What an experience.
